Code Enforcement
What is Code Enforcement?
The City of Syracuse established local laws, called City Codes, designed to promote safe and attractive residential neighborhoods and commercial districts. To enforce these codes, the Syracuse City Council adopted, by resolution, an ordinance enforcement officer position to ensure compliance with zoning ordinances. The officer works in an impartial manner to find fair and reasonable solutions to zoning violations.

Ordinance Complaint Procedure
The City of Syracuse has assigned Community Development staff members to identify and respond to various City Code violations. Most violations or infractions can be quickly corrected once staff contacts the property owner. However, the City will pursue all legal methods necessary to abate nuisances and property violations against property owners who are unwilling to comply with City ordinances. To contact a staff member to assist you with a problem within your neighborhood, please call (801) 614-9626 or, to view and print a complaint form to bring into the City Offices, click on the link below.
